I work on analytical systems where evidence is incomplete and errors carry financial, operational or public consequences. My current work spans risk decisioning, knowledge systems, intelligence analysis and strategic warning.

I began my career as a scholar of intelligence, completing a PhD in Political Science at the University of Nottingham. I subsequently conducted research and taught in Sweden, New Zealand and Taiwan. This work examined the ways institutions make decisions with incomplete or contested information.

I later moved into applied data science in Canada and Germany. My industry work has included scientific-evidence systems, government and defence analytics, natural-language processing, fraud prevention and risk decisioning. In regulated financial services, I progressed to Principal Data Scientist and led the development and governance of human-in-the-loop decision systems.

Across these environments, I treat a model as one component of a wider decision system.

Today, I am Founder and Principal Consultant of Germany-based boutique consultancy Aethernix, Lecturer at Universität für Weiterbildung Krems, a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the University of South Florida’s Global and National Security Institute, and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
